I just discovered this today, and it was so amazing and easy (and saved so much time!!) that I thought I’d share, even though I am by no means skilled at sewing.
Pick your buttons! This only works on buttons with the holes going through them, either four holes or two.
Get one of these bad boys. My sewing machine came with one, so if you’ve gotten one in the past few years, yours probably did too. Based on a highly scientific googling (this is sarcasm) it looks like they run about $7-$10, which is totally worth it IMO.
Set your machine to a zigzag stitch.
With a really wide zigzag to start. This will be adjusted to fit your button, but start at the widest.
Set stitch length to zero, cause we’re not going anywhere.
Get your button foot on (depends on sewing machine, so I skipped this) then slide your fabric and button under and put the foot down. The button holes should be framed in the foot, and as close to it as you can get.
From here, turn the wheel to make sure the needle goes through the holes, adjusting the stitch width:
until the needle goes through both holes cleanly. Then floor it! It only takes a few seconds, so don’t get distracted, haha.
For buttons with four holes, just adjust the button so the next set of holes are under the foot and repeat~
After wards, you’ll have long threads coming out the top, boo. Thread both through a needle and pull through to the back, then tie them off.
TA DA YOU JUST SEWED ON A BUTTON IN LIKE, A MINUTE, WOAH!!!
OKAY I HOPE THIS WAS HELPFUL~!
If you have any questions, I’ll do my best to answer them!
